about pokar

Pokar was born from memory, graffiti, family and street culture.

When I was around 16, I used to travel to Pátzcuaro and Mexico City with my cousin Bernardo. He was deeply passionate about graffiti. While I was always nervous about getting caught by the police, Bernardo only cared about painting walls and expressing himself through art.

His talent came from his mother, Teresa Figueroa — "Tere" — an artist who lived a quiet and beautiful life in Pátzcuaro with Salvador, Bernardo and Lola, their German Shepherd. Some of my favorite childhood memories were created inside their home.

Around that same time, I had a vision of building a minimalist clothing brand. One day, Bernardo showed me a mural he painted. The moment I saw it, I knew that piece would become the identity of the brand.

The "1965" represents the birth year of Tere.

More than a date, it became a symbol of memory, art, family and legacy.

Shortly after discovering the mural, Tere passed away. That moment gave Pokar a deeper meaning. The brand became a way to honor the people who shaped my childhood, the creativity they passed down, and the love that surrounded those years.

Pokar exists between CDMX and NYC, between minimalism and graffiti, between silence and expression.

Because graffiti is art too.

And the people who inspire us deserve to be remembered.
